The name of the show is "Inland Sea" and the idea for this came from some further reading that I have been doing about explorers such as Leichhardt and Burke & Wills. What interests me is the preconceptions that these explorers had and how they applied them to an alien landscape. One example of this was the expectation that there had to be an inland sea. They believed this to such an extent that part of the equipment that they carried was a boat and in one case a whale boat. I find this a very interesting metaphor. To express this idea in this show I have used early contemporary maps overlaying early maritime maps, incorporating old sailing vessels and combining these elements to comment about the contemporary and ongoing effects of occupation, settlement and ownership. The unknown becomes the exploited.
